Garden design courses revealed for new Harewood-based company

Based in Harewood House, the company, founded by Yorkshire’s own award-winning landscape designer, Alistair Baldwin, is driven by his desire to develop and train the next generation of garden designers to work with and understand the landscapes of the North.

Budding professional garden designers and interested hobbyists are invited to Grade 1 listed Harewood House on Saturday 23 July for a full day of inspiration. The school’s founder, Alistair, and fellow professional garden designer, Liz Rawlinson, will lecture on the courses offered.

Before Harewood’s Head Gardener, Trevor Nicholson, who has worked at the Treasure House for more than two decades, will offer a guided tour of the iconic Himalayan Terrace and Gardens.

“We are extremely delighted to be offering a second open day for anyone interested in taking a course at the Yorkshire School of Garden Design,” said Alistair Baldwin.

“The school was built to train future designers in Yorkshire and will be a springboard for anyone wishing to pursue a career in this hugely creative and exciting industry.

“The teachers and lecturers on all of our short courses, as well as our professional diploma, are all leading designers working around the world and have built first-class portfolios.

“We are all very happy to speak to anyone interested in joining us.”

The open day will start at 10am with tea and coffee in the teaching studio at Harewood’s Courtyard.

Guests will be able to get a full feel for the growing list of short courses available as well as the chance to chat and mingle with tutors and answer their questions.

As well as its one-year Professional Diploma in Garden Design, which follows the academic year and begins in September, the Yorkshire School of Garden Design will offer a full program of short courses for professionals and budding amateurs.
