A HOME BUILDER donated selected gardening and planting equipment to the Durham Nursing Home to enhance residents’ outdoor activities during National Home Garden Week.
David Wilson Homes donated tools, gloves, watering cans and vegetable seeds to residents of the Four Seasons Hallgarth Care Home on Hallgarth Road, near its The Drive at Mount Oswald development.
With garden therapy reportedly offering residents of nursing homes across the country a much needed purpose while family visits and day trips were restricted, the home builder’s donation was made to encourage residents. Elders of Durham to keep a green thumb even as they begin to regain a sense of normalcy after confinement.
Sarah Hall, Hallgarth Care Home Administrator, said: “The donation from David Wilson Homes was very welcome and has given a number of our residents the chance to enjoy the outdoors while planting some of their favorite vegetables.
“Now that the seeds have been sown, we have no doubt that there will be a lot of interest in the progress of our planters / subdivisions in the weeks and months to come. ”
As part of its continued support to the local community, Barratt Developments North East also runs its own community fund initiative, which allows the home builder to donate £ 1,000 to a different local charity each month.
Natalie Donnelly, Sales Manager at David Wilson Homes’ The Drive at Mount Oswald, added: National Home Garden Week seemed like the perfect opportunity to encourage members of our local community to embrace their indoor horticulturalist.
“We hope the tools can be put to good use during the rest of the summer and beyond.”
David Wilson Homes’ The Drive at Mount Oswald development offers a range of luxury 4 and 5 bedroom homes, less than two miles from downtown Durham.
