The design team created the raised garden proposal as a ‘grand urban scene’ that will also work with a series of restored Garnier buildings. The heart of the plan comprises a long building with a vegetated facade of more than 200 meters long, “unifying and embracing” the overall project which follows the geometry of the historic wall of Thiers from the 19th century, of which the existing remains will be preserved and restored. .

Call the The City of the Theater, the plan will house six new modular theaters, for the Comédie-Française, the National Odeon Theater and the National Conservatory. The Garnier room, listed as a Historic Monument, will become a large covered public space which will give access to the common areas of the three establishments: workshops, classrooms, media library and restaurants. The project aims to celebrate existing historic structures and provide green spaces that will transform the Cité du Théâtre into a new cultural center for Paris.

The jury for the Cité du Théâtre international competition was convened by the French Ministry of Culture and three theatrical institutions – the Comédie-Française, the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique and the Théâtre National de l’Odéon. The project is currently presented in the exhibition “Urbainable / Stadthaltig. Positions on the European City for the 21st Century ”at the Berlin Academy of the Arts.
